Default relocating from long island

my husband just found a great job in Greenwich. What is the best area to move into - we have school grade kids, and want to commute as little as possible to work, a city like, convinient, safe area is what we 're looking for.
We have a budget for $1800 a month. Any suggestions??

dreamjob - You are moving to one of the most expensive areas in the country. $1800 per month will not get you a lot in the immediate Greenwich area. Stamford is one option, but it is a large city and there are issues in the schools particularly in the upper grades.

Another option would be Fairfield. It is located about 20 miles from Greenwich but during rush hour it does take an hour or more to drive. If your husband's job is located near a train station, he could commute on Metro North to work. Fairfield has great schools and shopping, restaurants and entertainment options. There are nice parks and beaches and a large range of housing options from apartments to mansions.

A little closer would be Norwalk which is about 15 miles from Greenwich. It is a small city and has some issue with the upper grades of schools. There are many nice neghborhoods and apartments in the area plus great shopping, restaurants and entertainment options. A good way to get an idea of what you get for $1,800, check craigslist.com for listings. Good luck, Jay
