Actually, I've read that many are starting to, but the problem is when a big corporation tries something like this, they usually get vilified in the news as being "bigoted", etc. It's not as extensive as bobtn makes it out to be, but I've heard it in the news on more than one occasion.

A wellness incentive actually makes some sense to me, it's like a life insurance company charging you more if you smoke or a car insurance company charging you more if you have a reckless driving charge or two.....

mlassoff, Kaiser reported most offer wellness. I can personally attest for 3 parent orgs whose combined headcount exceeds 50,000 US who offer them corporate-wide. Typically $20 less every two weeks for participation.

I think the fact that these programs are newsworthy tells you that they are not offered by "most" employers as was previous claimed.

Private sector emulates best practices, which is why wellness is spreading. Government spreads worst practices, which is why states are in the red constantly.

True, but it's not "one in a million either" and that was my point.

"I am asking for additional ability to privatize services," Malloy told newspaper editorial writers and editors during a conference call Wednesday. "There are a whole bunch of people in the world who think they are the only people who know how to operate a plow. I got news for you, other people know how to operate a plow."

ROFL. I may not like his policies but I like his sense of humor.

All jokes aside, while I don't think laying off entry level workers is going to fix the problem, if he does lay off the workers and does push for privatization I'll eat some crow and give him credit for having the stones to do it.

DM does deserve credit if he does trade using subcontractors in lieu of overpaid DOT. Bear in mind, with the benefit package, which is more a function of headcount than gross wage-based in nature, the entry level spots, be they transit, janitorial, or clerical, are the ones that are ripe for outsourcing, as the state total cost is most out of touch there.

Front page of the NYT today addresses all of the changes Malloy has tried to make. Needless to say, he wasn't painted in a good light regarding the privatization matter or layoffs. Somewhere in the article they brought up the "tax the rich" suggestion. When the New York Times hates on a politician I like him/her a little more. My hatred for Malloy is a little less extreme now, but I'm still not going to buy groceries/gas/discretionary items on principle.
