Default Anyone from Wolcott? Is it a nice town to raise kids?

Hello,

We are planning on buying a house soon and Wolcott seems to be a nice town within our price range. The schools seem good, I went on greatschools.net. However, I was thinking that it is a small town so everybody probably knows everbody kinda thing. Do they accept newcomers well? I just want to find a nice place to raise my kids.

Thanks
Mel

Wolcott is a small town, it is nice and it has a lit of hills and somewhat rural in nature. I think the population is around 15,000 and the housing is more affordable than surrounding towns.

There is not much shopping locally, many people travel to Waterbruy or Southington for their shopping needs. There is no direct highway access so you will have to travel over Southington Mountain (very steep) or Waterbury to catch I-84

nice place location wise (on a plateau)...but a bit red-necky. Italian food overkill as well.

The schools in Wolcott are okay but the 8th grade CT Mastery Scores barely meet in the State averages; the number of computers per student in the upper grades is less than the state average and the class sizes appear to be high (7th Grade average size is listed as 27 students which is very high). This data is from 2006. Maybe you could check the current Mastery Test results to see if there have been any improvements. Jay
