Default Living near downtown hartford, CT

Hi,

I will move to study in Hartford, CT. My training center is on Charter Oak Ave. I'm searching for an apartment now. I'm thinking about living somewhere closed to the training center since I don't have a car. Does any one know if 250 Main street area is a safe place to live? Any area to avoid? Any suggestion?

Thank you

T

Charter Oak Avenue is not far from the new Convention center, and other new development downtown.

Have you investigated the building(s) at that address? 250 Main Street is an ok area- some interesting restaurants in the cities Latino area.

The west end of Hartford and the immediate downtown CBD are the best for apartments, safety and things to do.
It might be best to check out the neighborhood- the area is attempting to go through gentrification.

Sky,

Thanks for your info. I did go to see the apartment last week on 250 Main street. The apartment is ok but I'm not sure about the area because a couple block away from 250 looks a bit sketchy. Maybe I'm used to country part of US. :-) I just want some insight from locals to make sure if where I'll live is safe. So 250 Main Street is safe to live?

You say you are from the 'country' that being so Hartford is an urban setting- and that being so- has problems.

Since you do not have a car- I understand your desire to be close to the school you will be attending.

250 Main street is a part of Hartford in transition- the area as you said has some areas that do not 'look good'.

That area of Main street in south Hartford has been gentrified into the heart of the Latino Community.

Remember public transportation is very good in Hartford- so you can look at other areas of Hartford, West Hartford and also Wethersfield just a few miles to the south.
