we got poison ivy or sumac really bad. We've been to a dermatologist in Hartford area years ago, but I cannot remember their name.
Now they're telling us to go to the emergency room! That's ridiculous. It costs about $250 just to walk in the door of the ER. I don't have that kind of money.
Any good skin doctor's in the Hartford area? Ones that take new patients?
I doubt there's free or low cost health clinic, since this is ct. We tried to go to a clinic and they wanted $95 just to come inside!

Can't a family doc handle poison ivy/sumac? Check with one of those before you pay big bucks for a specialist.

Default ty for the advice...

I just figured our GP had retired. Seems that he's still in practice. Hope I get an appt.
Nope, dermatologists are not that expensive, at least the ones I've used were not. Plus too, I highly allergic to poison ivy/sumac, so I need a good dermatologist.

There is a good one I know of in Bristol that I think is taking new patients so long as you have certain insurances. DM me if you want more info.

Oh, crap, I just called the number that's listed under my doctor I had for years, and it isn't even the same doctor! And the stupid telephone receptionist AGAIN, instead of having one of their doctor's call me, INSIST I MUST go to the Emergency Room.

What kind of health care is there in the state, if you're not allowed to even have a dr call you??
Crap! I'm so damn itchy...

Generally doctors wont call you for a problem you are having on a weekend unless you are a CURRENT patient at their practice, which pretty much means you have been to see them in the past 3 years or less. So emergency room would be typical protocol for a non patient.

You might be better off waiting until tomorrow so you can call and make an appt, it would be cheaper!!

I'd listen to the doc's office and go to the ER if I were you. As a good rule, you should look for a primary care practice which has on-call hours 24/7. You can avoid costly ER visits that way.

If you are just itchy and aren't undergoing any kind of anaphylactic reaction (throat closing up, difficulty breathing/swallowing, etc.) then you can probably put calamine or hydrocortisone on it and wait til tomorrow.

Yup, did have luck. Found a good dermatologist and went for only $75. Got medicine for $20.
It wud've been at least $95 just to walk into some cheap dirty health clinic in our area. Yuk!
Glad I waited... now waiting for the cortisone to kick in...
