My wife has been working for world renowned and respected chefs her whole career and with my new job in Hartford i'm concerned that the Hartford area might not have the environment she needs to continue her professional development.

Please let me know where I should suggest my wife seek to fine a top class chef.

Hartford has a very active restaurant scene and a good chef will have a lot of opportunities here. It is up to your wife what she does when she gets here. I would first say she should come and work in a local restaurant and get a feel for it before starting her own restaurant. That way she could find out what type of place ot open and where is should be located. Jay

Hartford has a decent dining movement. West Hartford is a good example, but might be hard for a new chef to gain ground in. I know someone who is a superb chef at Tango in Glastonbury. Again, the area is decent - not exceptional.

IMO the southwest coast - roughly Greenwich to New Haven - is where it's at for restaurant opportunities in this state. Lots of restaurants, lots of opportunity.

Going to ignore the talk about local cuisine for a minute but just say there is plenty here that can be considered "world class". Welcome to the restaurant ON20 - sensuous food, passionately prepared would be an example as would Cavey's which wins best in state for French and Italian more than not...Southwest CT included. Cavey's Restaurant

Anyhow, my vote was for personal chef. While Hartford may not have the billionaire wealth of Fairfield County, it still ranks very high. In the top 10 nationally. I think there would be more opportunity for a private chef as we do have that class of people here not in short supply.

Grants in West Hartford is great. He also owns Briccos in Glastonbury, very good as well.

The Ct Culinary Institute might be able to help. They have a great reputation and are located in downtown Hartford.
