Maybe this will help people who want to move into CT....or move out too.

Yeah, I think my biggest shock was that Fairfield County was closing in on 1 million considering the square miles of it and 2nd next to Westchester.

My other shock was Middlesex with just 165,000. That might have to be my next move or maybe Windham.

I think Windham County is very underrated. The housing is significantly more affordable, it's very quiet and has no traffic, there is decent highway access, and it's only 40 minutes to Providence and Worcester, and Boston isn't even that far. There's also ample shopping in Killingly and Putnam. I have considered moving there myself. My mom is opposed to it because "it would be culture shock, and it's east of the river." Most people praise Litchfield County over Windham, but Litchfield is too touristy and infested with New Yorkers IMO.

I think population is a bit more evenly spread in Hartford County.

In FFC, when you're in the lower part - it feels much more populated because it's more dense. The middle part of FFC, and much of the northern part is pretty sparsely populated and some towns are very rural. Most of that population is in the southern towns/cities.

Wow, I spend a lot of time up in that neck of the woods and never got a touristy New Yorker vibe. Maybe in Kent, since it's so close to the border, you see a lot of NY plates, but it's a really nice town and you don't really encounter any obnoxious tourists. I think it's got an unfair rep.

I think Nep might have meant that Litchfield county was touristy in general. In regards to NY'ers though, a large number of homes in Litchfield county are owned by NY'ers. They work in NYC during the week, and come up to the "country" for weekends and holidays.

Yup... Lower end of that number..

1910 Just 101 short years ago there was 245,322.
1960 Just 51 short years ago there was 653,589.
2011 we actually have 916,000 based on 2010 census.

So if its growing about 300-400,000 every 50 years that will put Fairfield over the 1 million mark roughly by 2022. Once you understand the compounding effect you'll realize it actually could happen in under 10 years. Luckily people arent having 4-6 kids anymore.

Have you been to greater Hartford lately? It's amazing how many people have transplanted here from the big city. Most of them are respectful and don't have an attitude (repeat, MOST), but why they decided to leave the NYC metro area for up here is still surprising to me.
