Oh yeah, it's nice on the outside. However, they treat their employees horribly. My good friend was hired in June and 3 weeks later, one of her bosses, going through another, told her not to come in until Monday (this was a Saturday). When she came in, the management claimed that they were "doing a 3 week investigation" of her "giving away free merchandise." When in fact, employees are told to do anything in their power to make the customer happy. Oh, and by the way, that "free merchandise" was a broken ice cream cone. Instead of laying her off, they pulled intermediary BS and made her super anxious over the weekend. And then they had the nerve to try to make her rat out her co-workers who were suspected of the same "crime."

OMG - that sucks. I thought they had won some sort of "best places to work" recognition.

It has been listed as one of the 100 Top Places to Work by Fortune Magazine for the last six years. Stew Leonard's has become a large company and the reported incident may have been isolated or only a partial biased account. Thye are known for promoting from within meaning that they take care of their best staff, but there is only so much you can do in retailing. It still is a great place to shop. Jay

Oh yeah - I second that - I just got back - not so crowded and crazy. I sampled the best chocolate milk I've EVER had and chocolate chip ice cream. Oh dear God - I honestly can't be allowed in there. And CARB LAND right when you walk in - key lime pie - multiple flavors of croissants - all butter double chocolate chip cookies - Oy! So of course I came out with $80 of JUNK! I think I did manage to throw in a rotisserie chicken and some turkey sausage and some salad.

Their chocolate milk is fantastic. Actually, all their milk is great, and it actually lasts longer than other brands of milk. Great soft serve ice cream. Delicious spinach pie. Sourdough bread. And all those beautiful pies...

I was also impressed at the amount of things on the hot food bar - I wonder if it's any good though? They had everything from Caribbean to Asian - usually when you do a little of everything - nothing is very good. The fried chicken looked really tempting too.

I grew up on their chocolate milk and ice cream (maybe that is why I am overweight?). It was great then and I am sure it is still good now. Maybe a trip to the Newington store will be a good idea this weekend. Norwalk is kind of far from here. Jay

Get thee to Stew's - even the frozen yogurt is good. I got the cookie dough frozen yogurt instead of the ice cream - in a small attempt to be "good" - Ha - hubby and I polished that off yesterday. The cupcakes, sadly, were awful - dry - flavorless blobs. But the all butter chocolate chip cookies get a thumbs up. I've got to figure out how to get in that store with out walking through the bakery section. It sucks me in!

Everything I've ever had on the hot food bar was good...some great, some just good, but nothing was bad or tasteless. (lived there and shopped there--occasionally--for 14 yrs of my adult life)
