Agreed! Made it even harder to maintain strength. Lets face it land and hurricanes dont mix well. Well, all the better. This was not the "one" not even close..hopefully someday people will be prepared when a real hurricane comes through which can still happen

If not, it will be, they're talking about upper 50s for a low even in Manhattan so I imagine it would be even cooler in CT.

As for "hype", I think in some ways it is, and some ways it wasn't.

1) For inland, unless you have a lot of flooding, it was hyped.

2) On the coast, it's not much different than at least the National Hurricane Center said. It was a Cat 1 up to Sandy Hook, NJ (basically just south of NYC) and looking at the news, a lot of the storm surges/flooding was as advertised. To me this basically was Floyd, destructive, but certainly not at all "catastrophic" (and if you remember, it was very much "hyped" too.....it's just you didn't quite have the "instant Internet/social media" of today). I do worry though that the "hype" will mean people will be less complacent the day something like the 1938 storm comes.

In the sense that some in the news made it sound like it was going to be something where buildings collapse, street signs fly through the air, etc., I don't think that kind of hurricane has EVER happened in this part of the country (maybe the 1938 storm if it came today......). But I think if they didn't do some of the things they did a lot more people would've been out in this storm and I think you would've had a lot more problems. Think about all the cars not hit by trees on the Merritt Parkway or that didn't crash into other cars, etc.

Well, who knows. As we saw with Katrina, patterns can develop and we still have a few months left in hurricane season. Unlikely, but probably more likely than your average year for it to strike twice.

One of our trees tipped over and is now blocking half the main road.

The good news: It was looking a little unhealthy in the past year (still alive and growing, just not as lush as it used to be), but we couldn't afford to pay someone to have it cut down. Now it's the city's problem.

I caught the Off Topic dig a few posts later, directed at this poster. Uncalled for and rude.
Something sarcastic about how their tax paying neighbors must be happy now. Are you so insensitive not to realize the the poster was WORRIED about this tree but did not have the money to have it taken down? Not everyone has $1000 or more to take a tree down. The person didn't plant the tree in the first place and I'm sure if they had extra money floating around, they would have had it removed. Sheesh. If YOU have so much money, maybe you could help other people out instead of being so critical and holier than thou.

Yea....my fear is after this overhyped event, people wont head the real ones warnings. Always the problem with hurricanes..you have to warn people, but 9 of 10 times it doesn't come through. But that ONE time....thats when it counts.

Who knows Cove Island Park in Stamford? Long Island sound was eye level from the road. An amazing sight to see. This is at the entrance!
