Justin, here's a great source for accurate, on-going information: Dr. Jeff Masters' WunderBlog : Irene hits North Carolina : Weather Underground

"The storm surge and wave action from Irene is likely to cause the greatest damage, and this will be a historic coastal flooding event for many regions of the mid-Atlantic and Northeast."

Dr Masters does not hype or sensationalize. He's a meteorologist of the first order.

Yes, we got that call. Plus calls from the town, the police dept. etc. etc. It's kind of strange getting all these recorded calls.

Wow, we are getting some really heavy rain all of a sudden.

Interesting :

5 oclock observations from cities close to the center

Ocean City Wind 38 Gust 49
Richmond Wind 39 Gust 56
Norfolk Wind 31 Gust 51
Elizabeth Cty Wind 35 Gust 44

So uniform throughout but not near hurricane force anywhere...but most of the hurricane force winds found are to the east of the center,.. A NYC landfall puts CT on the east side and keep that in mind ..

The sink holes werent any where near where the trees used to be. The hill side just sank. A few people thought the hill may have been over excavated when the home was built and not filled back in properly, but the house is 19 years old and Seymour has had huge washouts all over town all summer. I just hope the mudslide warnings are wrong. Our neighborhood has stacked yards.

Yup and thanks for the thought, I've long followed that blog and normally very good info there.......however it has degraded a bit lately with bickering and frivolous crap amongst the weather geeks there.
