Wanda,

CT summers are not too bad really--
less heat then areas of California 20 miles inland from the ocean-much less in fact.
We do have elevated periods of high humidity here though-another words it can become sultry and you sweat and need air conditioning- but its not too bad.

If you want prolonged heat in the summer with a high dose of Humidity try Philly and south-

I made the opposite move from Northern Ca to CT this past winter after many years in CA.
I don't think that you can generalize that much about people. I think there are nice people to be found in every state but it is just hard being a new comer coming into any community --because you are the stranger, the new neighbor and YOU have to make the effort to be friendly and introduce yourself not the other way around. You also have to take the initiative and join clubs, take classes, join a church etc. to start a new social network. It is not an easy thing for most adults to do but with effort most people can find like minds. The basic difference I see is that people in Ct have snow shovels and people in CA don't ( unless they live in the Sierras). Nor CAL is one of the most gorgeous places to live on the planet, with redwood forests, Yosemite, Tahoe, Big Sur, San Francsico, Monterey. There is a reason it is expensive to live there.

I think you're right, it is the humidity that I don't like. I live on the ocean so I get a great breeze all day, however, it can get very hot here for one or two weeks of the year. This year has been very hot, hotter I do believe than your fair state, which by the way I will be visiting next month. Thanks in advance for any advice or ideas you can give me.

Wanda, if visiting next month , any humidity and heat of summer will be likely be gone. September has warm days with average highs around 76 degrees. Good luck on your trip and real estate fact finding trip- I am sure you will enjoy beautifully bucolic western CT.

Thank you skytrekker, I look forward to the visit. I am looking for that same small, idyllic town as all the others. I'm sure I'll find it somewhere in Ct.

Wanda

just a side; consider eastern Connecticut's 'quiet corner'
Windham county- Putnam, Pomfret, Woodstock, Brooklyn and Canterbury.
The new choice for former Californians and others. Harrison Ford has a 'mini estate' in Pomfret, and John Travolta has long had a home 'somewhere' in Windham county.

These towns are charming, with a more understated, and laid back attitude then western Connecticut. Do consider. Pomfret is stunningly beautiful.
