I was wondering if anyone had any personal encounters or knew any information about my situation.

I got a speeding ticket in NY last month and was wondering what the effects on my action will be.

If I don't pay the ticket...What will happen? Suspended from driving in NY? Warrant for arrest in CT?

If I pay...Will my insurance find out? Will I get points of of license?

Your insurance company will find out, you can't hide anything from them! Do you have the option of taking an on-line driving course for your speeding ticket! If you do, take the test and there will be no points on your license. I was given that option due to a speeding ticket here in Fl and no points.

Back in 1996, a card was enclosed with license renewals stating that Connecticut had moved away from the point system. However, their website shows otherwise:

Connecticut DMV Point System - Guide to CT DMV Points & Suspensions - DMV.ORG

and...

Traffic Frequently Asked Questions (section 12).

You should try negotiating the ticket, they give you a chance to speak with someone and explain why were you driving too fast. They might go easy on you if your CT license is clean and you are a seasoned driver. The worst you can do let it go unresolved because your insurer will know and will raise your rate. But again, don't just pay it to leave quickly, negotiate to avoid the points.

Don't ignore it. I got a seatbelt violation ticket in NY once (ignored it) and 5 years later got into a fender bender in NY only to discover after the cops arrived that my license had been suspended in NY. For a seatbelt violation!

Points in NY are not reported to CT. Pay your fines in NY though...your PRIVILEGE to drive in NY will be suspended if you ignore it. Also...3 speeding violations in 18 months will get your privileges revoked. Never happened to me personally..but someone I know in college had a heck of time with the Thruway cops. They are EVERYWHERE on I-90
