Not really. Go inland to rural areas in New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, New York, Virginia, the Carolinas, etc. and it's just as - if not more - "out here".

You're right, but the thing is that we're so close to "in there" "out here" in NE CT, if you know what I mean.

Yeah I suppose, but go 1 hour away from Charleston, Fairfax, Charlotte, or even Boston - and hello sticks.

Not really. Well, maybe if you mean the northeastern most town in CT (Thompson), and even then, it's likely over an hour. And those towns = the sticks.

Not that I'm agreeing with the previous comments in this thread about the boonies, but FWIW I can get to the 128 loop in about an hour from Manchester if I'm pushing it, hour fifteen driving normal. It's about 70-75 miles depending on where you start and like the drive to Bridgeport from where I am. About an hour and a half to downtown Boston taking my time.

It's really surprising just how close East/Northeast of Hartford is to Boston. But then again, as we all know CT is just a NYC suburb. lol

Manchester to the 128 loop is 80+ miles. And that's not even Boston - you still have to go another 15-20 miles.

I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just saying the claim that an hour outside of Boston is Connecticut is really pushing it...

Southwestern CT is. But if you ask a few MA/northern NE residents, they'd tell New York "you can have Connecticut". LOL

It's funny that Coventry was mentioned -- it and Canterbury are two eastern CT towns I've been interested in visiting since seeing them on this site.

Historic Buildings of Connecticut

It's a fantastic site if you're interested in the architecture of the state -- we have many gems here

It's roughly 85 miles from where we pick up the highway to downtown Boston. 70-75 depending where you are going to the 128 loop. We do it all the time as my BIL has good season tickets to Fenway and we are up in the Seacoast and Maine a lot.

Here's a map out from google showing 1.5 hours to downtown Boston. (Which we all know is conservative.) It literally takes us 3 minutes to get to that point on the highway.

Boston, MA to I-84 W - Google Maps

I-90 W to I-84 W - Google Maps

Setting the cruise for 70-75mph, EZ pass in the window, it's almost too easy. I'm telling you East/Northeast of Hartford is a lot closer than many people realize. Heck if you start in Tolland you're only 65 miles away from Waltham.

I guess if you count walking out of the house, getting in the car, buckling the kids up to locking the doors and walking away in Boston it would be more than that.

No argument there...I just get a kick out of people from Boston who say Hartford is a NY suburb when it's closer to Boston. LOL

Cool site. They missed the Bidwell Tavern in Coventry. If you go to Coventry, you are obligated to stop in for their famous wings and a pint. If you don't you get fined.
