Here is the tree in downtown Stamford that I mention in my previous post.

Well folks, I'm at a loss of words... My time of the year is actually coming to an end and in a hurry.

Yeah, it seems like what I was seeing and posted on August 10th was the very start. Pretty sick. I never remember a start that early. I drove on merrit south this morning and you can see it. Even if its not color you can see the fading out of deep green starting.

Hickories or Birch are changing too.

Tonight chilly again in the 40s and 50s. This might end up be a spectacular foliage season this year and surprisingly early.

I'm in Avon and seeing touches of yellowing leaves everywhere, and even some red. As we've just moved to the US I assumed this was normal; it wasn't until I checked out this thread that I realized it may be early...

Yup, Yellow, reds, Oranges, and faded greens. Safe to say the change has started and about 4 weeks early. Impressive and probably a first in August. I'm not surprised being in the extreme environment we now live in.

Sugar, Japanese, and swamp Maples turning. Hickories. and Tulip trees starting. Beech also. I would say maybe 8% of the landscape has turned or is turning. There's still a lot of greens out there and of course there should be, its still summer

Well, after a brief warmup, the color changing process got put on hold. But here we go again seeing colors showing up more places.

Less than 1% peaked, More than 55% in the changing process Either yellowing or faded green.. About 2-3 weeks early. Saw this one today in Milford today

I say these trees were stressed earlier in the game but changed nevertheless

Is it really early? As far as I learned in school, the major catalyst to the changing of the colors was the shortening of the days (which begins in June), which signals the trees that there will soon not be enough light to photosynthesize. Obviously, the cold with have an effect on glucose trapped in the leaves. However, even if it were warm, the daylight isn't there and the leaves would start to change.

We'll see. I bet Columbus Day will be around peak leaf viewing time this year.

One of the nicest spots in your own town is along Stanwich Road.

At a certain area on that road there's a horse stable (if heading north the stable will be on your right), that thanks to the clearing of the forest in that area allows for quite a spectacular panoramic view over a small valley that exist right along the Greenwich/Stamford line and to the other ridge on the other side.

This is quite a spectacular view at any time of the year, but especially in October when all the trees are at their peak in terms of colors.

There's Plenty of areas. Are you looking for a drive or a spot to just park or a spot to hike?
