Default Litchfield County Towns

I need all the expert opinions of everyone living in the Northwest Corner: Which town is byfar, the best to live, taking in the following criteria:

Beauty of the landscape, family values, services for children and the elderly,
quality of life, healthcare services available, and sense of community. I am looking for the best town for my elderly parents, my husband, and children to relocate to. It's important that we have the community/business resources available to help out with both my parents, and younger children. Does anyone have ideas on how we can stay in CT, but get all the things that our family needs? I thank you for your thoughts. CJ

I'm not sure of your price range, but assuming price isn't an issue:

Completely surrounded by Litchfield County in NW CT (but is actually the northernmost town in Fairfield County) is Sherman. This has always been my favorite town in NW CT. It is very quaint, incredibly scenic, close to Danbury (20 minutes) and the services offered by that city, not too far from Litchfield (about 25 minutes +-) and is close to Candlewood Lake. The town is too small so doesn't have its own high school, so students go off to either New Milford High or New Fairfield High. Both of these high schools are very good, and very close to Sherman. If you do visit the town, go to American Pie, a small eatery near the center of town where locals congregate to discuss the latest issues, local and national. Sherman has no chain restaurants or stores, only mom & pop shops.

If you'd like to be a little further to the north, I'd highly recommend Kent. This town has a typical New England setting and is home to many authors, actors and actresses who have come to 'hide away' in the country. Kent has a very picturesque downtown with great coffee and bagel shops. The town is rather earthy and liberal, and residents are extremely friendly. This is my second favorite town in CT only to Sherman. Kent, however, is a little further out.

If you live in either one of these towns, big box shopping and retail is located in New Milford, where there is a hospital, grocery stores, home depot, etc right along Route 7. If you're looking to go to the mall, Danbury Fair Mall is about 20 minutes from Sherman and about 40 minutes from Kent.

Other nice towns in NW CT worth checking out are Warren, Litchfield, Roxbury, Washington and Bridgewater. Woodbury is also very nice, and close to I-84 in between Danbury and Waterbury.

Good luck.

You mention community/business resources, but do not say what this is.

If you need to be near healthcare services, then I would suggest living near one of the towns with a hospital. Most of the towns in Litchfield are scenic and lovely, but they are mostly pretty small.

New Milford is a nice small town with a great downtown area and a lot of things for families to do. It does have a small hospital too.

Another option would be Torrington. it is a small city with a downtown area and lots of shopping options. There is a hospital there as well. Good luck, Jay
