Hello? Summer? Where are you?
Can I just tell you I am OVER this RAIN. OMG - its AUGUST. I thought I could at least enjoy sunshine and blue skies until fall. UGH. Tell me this is some weird anomaly. We've had three straight days of rain - now imagine trying to entertain a 10-year old indoors for that amount of time. Oy!

No rain up here in Tolland county- pleasant weekend-partly sunny yesterday and this morning- a few showers over night.
Remember you are in the northeast-weather here is highly changeable and not very predictable- give thanks you are not in the south or low mid section of the nation- consecutive 100 degree weather with high humidity.
Seems the southwest part of the state is getting that weird weather further south-
cool today inland and partly sunny 70
Partly cloudy tomorrow 77
Thursday 85 and humid
Friday 90 and humid
Saturday 92 and humid

True - my family is in the Carolinas - and we were actually going to drive down for a visit - but it is sweltering.

Nothing weird about the weather...summer is cranking down, merging into autumn. I love this time of year in the Northeast.

Autumn? In August? I thought autumn(fall) was in October? Okay - now is a good time for you natives to give me a 12 month break down on what I should expect? I.E. - traditionally when is the first snow - how long does it stay cold. When does spring officially start here. More importantly - we have no in between clothes - just summer and winter (coming from Los Angeles) so should I unpack the winter stuff now? I have no idea what I should be my kid for back to school? I mean are we really done with the 90degree and above weather for the year. Should I pack up the shorts?

When I visited up there a couple weeks back, the weather was so incredibly nice. 82-85 during the day and cool at night. So much nicer than the 100 + degree weather we have been having here in NC for the past 3 weeks.

No, you're not done with 90 degree days, well, maybe 90s are done, but 80s and 70s can be found even in October, followed by 60 degree days. By now the nights are usually cooler. We moved to NC after living in CT all my life, and we were just discussing that by now I was done with our pool since the nights were so cool I couldn't tolerate the water it got so cold, even if it was 80 out.
There was a Halloween were were out in short sleeve shirts and wishing we had shorts on, other Halloweens where we were freezing cold.....Unpack some winter stuff, sweaters that you can wear over short sleeve shirts for later in the day, or to put on again even later when it cools off.....Keep some shorts available, some pants, a little of everything, and remember the layers for on top!

It's not suppose to be like this in August. I heard this weekend will warm up. We'll get to go in the pool.

It's a little early for true fall weather, but between late August and say, late October, it might be anywhere between 80 and 30 on a given day. There's usually at least a few days of Indian Summer once you think it's getting cold for good. So don't pack up the shorts just yet. Back to school time might still mean summer clothes for a few weeks.
The progression between "summer clothes" and "winter clothes" just involves a succession of layers--there's a lot of little steps between "pants and t-shirt" and "thick sweater with a long-sleeve shirt underneath, a t underneath that, and a coat, and long johns under the pants, and wooly socks".
