This one looks like a good value. It even has central air-conditioning. You might want to replace the green carpeting, and re-paint, but that's all it needs.

The problem I saw with the house on 9 Sioux in Middlefield was that it had a well for water.

If you need a referral to a Realtor, my sister-in-law has one of the largest independent firms in Middletown.

Uh...what's wrong with that? Many prefer it. I do. Better water and no monthly bill from the MDC.

I was thinking about the possibility of the well being contaminated with bacteria, and having to hook-up to town water. With small lots and septic tanks near-by, I would get the water tested before I made an offer.

Even if the water is contaminated, but not horribly so (the well water isn't mostly harmful waste), it's still a better choice than getting water from a water company. Well filters are available (wide variety of prices depending on what the contaminants are and how high tech you want to be when removing them) and basic faucet water purifiers can be used to double ensure that the water is safe for consumption and bathing.

We just moved to Sneads Ferry from Maryland for retirement (and the fishing). But I am originally from Connecticut and have many relatives there.

My in-laws in North Carolina had problems with bacterial contamination of their well. I think the soil was saturated from the septic system. The local goverment made them hook up to city water. That's why I was concerned about the well in the house the OP mentioned.

lol To be forthright, CT has some of the best drinking water in the nation. I just don't like the added fluoride and chlorine.

Nah, different animal up here. It *can* happen, but it's generally from old wells that don't have the head above ground that can get ground water contamination. Plus, most wells here are very deep through bedrock unlike most of the South.
