OK people, I need your help.

I'm trying to convince my wife that we should move from Ohio (she's from out here) to CT, specifically the Hartford area. We are flying in to town from Sept. 14-17 in order to learn more about the area and CT itself.

In the 2+ days that we'll be there, what should we do/see to sell her on all that central CT has to offer? I'm talking things to do in Hartford and the neighbhoring areas. I'm open to drive down to the coast or up to the rural areas of NE or NW Connecticut to show her some old-school colonial New England towns/villages.

What do you experts suggest we go do?

welcome and enjoy your little vacation. The wife still unconvinced?

Downtown Hartford is on the Move; Take her to the riverfront area- very nice, there you will see the new and iconic science center going up.

Try just south of downtown, and make a trip to the Wadsworth Atheneum -oldest art museum in the nation. Drive over to Bushnell Park, see the Famous Bushnell Memorial Auditorium- and the Sate Capital. The west end of the city on Farmington Av also has the Mark Twain house/Museum and next door almost the Harriet Beecher Stowe house. Also nearby is the Hartford Children's theater.

Driving west on Farmington Av-into West Hartford Center- she and you will love it.

Driving south on I 91, then route 9 visit the lower CT river towns of Chester and Essex- charming.

New Haven also is fun, see the historic green, churches and of course Yale University and the Peabody Museum.

Looking toward the east, along the state beaches; Hammonassett in Madison, and Rocky Neck in Niantic. Traveling further east from here on I 95 visit Mystic Seaport and the nearby Aquarium.

In 2 plus days you may be hard pressed to gt the full flavor of the state-

Sky had some good ideas, I was also thinking West Hartford Center, the CT River Valley (Essex and that area), and Mystic. It isn't that far of a drive but gives you a little taste of different areas. You should try and squeeze in a Mystic trip, even just walking around the town. Maybe the open water will be your selling point!

Not sure what your wife's interests are but I would recommend a drive through the lower Connecticut River Valley like Mels suggested including going to the Goodspeed Opera House in East Hadaam. Mystic (with the Aquarium and Seaport) is a good idea as well with a trip to Abbotts in Noank for lobster in the rough.

Another place that may be of interest are the Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Casinos. Very large exciting places for a little entertainment.

If you want to stay in the immediate area, then I agree to check out West Hartford Center. Be sure to drive by Blue Back Square which is southeast of the Main Street/Farmington Avenue intersection. It won't be opened for a few months yet but it is really starting to look nice over there and you can get ana idea of what it will be like (lots of shops, reataurants, offices and residences plus a movie theater complex). Old Wethersfield has a lot of charm but is pretty quiet with only a couple of small stores and restaurants. Good luck, Jay

Well I just moved here for my husbands job from Atlanta don't expect any help from me. They have ugly houses and everything is expensive. Paid 30.00 for a nail fillin today. Outrageous!!!!!!!

Wow, generalize much? If you did the slightest bit of research before moving I am sure you would have come up with the fact that CT is more expensive than Georgia. It isn't exactly a secret. And really, every house is ugly? Don't you think you are being just a bit dramatic?

You must be kidding right??? Connecticut has many beautiful homes with real charm. I find homes in the Atlanta area to be a bit "plastic" looking and just trying to be charming. Sorry we don't underpay working class people so your nail filling would be less expensive. JMHO Jay

As stated previously, any person with the slightest bit of intelligence knows CT is more expensive than Atlanta.

And personally, I think CT has the most beautiful, stately homes in comparison to the rest of the country. If you like small, crowded cookie-cutter homes situated 1 yard from each other, then Atlanta is a better fit.
