With all due respect to your anecdote:

It is a real phenomenum, and it is impossible to predict what happened in Hartford would or wouldn't happen elsewhere.

Exactly.

When the story of that helpless man was first posted here, I linked to this about the bystander effect:

Hey, I'm sure wouldnt move him because I may kill him that way and may accused of being one that cause of his death.

So dont think nobody dont care, because everyone on park street might of thought the guy was drunk laying down in the middle of the road. I know how Park street operates

Oh so towns like Wethersfield, Newington, West Hartford, Bloomfield and Windsor are not nice? And sections of Boston do not compare with the North End of Hartford? Give me a break. Jay

Why don't you be honest here mslassoff.. I don't care to compare anything about CT with the members of this forum. And I never mention Boston in my original thread to start with, so what difference does it make?
It's not been too pleasant to say the least dealing with many members of this particular forum, if you want me to be really honest. So many of you, like to violate the TOS here!

There are a lot of nice suburbs in the Boston area. They're expensive too. You're not getting into Stoneham, Melrose, Arlington, Saugus for under 250 for anything decent.

I wouldn't want to raise a family in this day and age in Everett, Malden, Chelsea, Lynn where the cost of living is less. I grew up around there and friends in the area are constantly telling me how much things have declined.

I have to ask, do you live in MA yet or do you just dream of a better place?

MA still has property taxes on vehicles, it's called Excise tax. You have to get your car inspected. You're REQUIRED to carry health insurance or pay a penalty come tax time. The sales tax just went up (though you can border jump to NH's tax free shopping). Property taxes are similar to what I've seen in comparable areas of CT based on what my HO friends in MA tell me. Maybe NH is more your style. Their housing is cheap, they have no sales taxes.. but they do have super high property taxes. There's give and take anywhere, but realistically, the Northeast in general is expensive even if you're living in a rural or crime ridden area.

For two vehicles, I paid over $800 in CT. What was yours?

I paid $750 on my work truck alone. That's almost a house tax in Charlotte.

I can't speak for the person you're asking, but I can tell you that the same two cars that cost us $751 in CT vehicle property tax (West Hartford) cost us $52 in MA excise tax (Worcester).

In that regard, I've found MA to be significantly less expensive.
