Although it wouldn't change traffic, a new owner for the mall would do wonders - Westfield sucks.
If you look at where those "ghost malls" are located, you wil see that they are where there are a number of other stronger malls nearby. Fortunately here in Connecticut that is not the case. In fact the New Haven area is under malled by common standards. The Chapel Square Mall closed years ago and the malls proposed at Long Wharf and in North Haven were never built (partially thanks to Westfield's anti-competition tactics). I agree that westfield stinks with their hodge podge of junk stores catering to the lowest level of shopper. That is one of the reasons why so many people from the New Haven area amake the trip up to West Farms to shop. Nordstrom's there has a lot of shoppers from Madison, Guilford and Branford. Jay

I live in Branford and know many people here, and don't know anyone who makes the trip to West Hartford just to shop.

Yeah I've never heard of it either. Maybe very occasionally. The farthest I go to shop are the outlets in Clinton, but that's because they're outlets.

Waterbury did a great job with the old Naugatuck Valley Mall.

Moral of the story seems to be "don't go shopping in metropolitan CT, not even for pet food." Moral applies to all months, not just December. Some posters say the entitlement mindset only flares up badly with Christmas stress or it's only in really congested areas, but this "street panic" and rudeness happens everyday in SW Conn, even on back roads. Kidyankee, I'm sorry about your horrible day. Aside from the fender bender, your day sounded like a typical day in this part of the state.

Thanks. And I agree when you say it's a typical day in southern CT.
