Ive gone online comparing crime rates of sevveral towns in CT; Bridgeport being the highest. I looked up new milford and was a little surprised to see things like "rape" being up there on the list.(not WAY WAY up on the list but actually on the list)Larceny was the 1st highest category in new milford
Could this be true??????
I love mew milford and want to buy or rent in the area for a getaway from congested ol long island

I think you have to look at the crime data compared to national averages. Rape and larceny are still very low-

New Milford's crime stats are way below the national average-considering that 352 is what is 'average' and that New Milford is rated 72.

I frankly do not how much lower you can go, as compared to other areas nationally.

New Milford is far safer then your present location on LI. At this crime level- New Milford is A very safe town.

Can it be true? In NM, if there was 1 larceny, it just may be the highest on the list. You would need to question the source. A rape is random . I cannot see any town being particularly prone to rape. It could happen on the space shuttle.
What little "crime" New Milford does have results from one distinct demographic. Your 15-24 year olds who get rowdy in town late at night, especially weekends. Their just loud, belligerant and are lacking an ass whuppin' from mommy & daddy. Surprisingly, many of these kids come from well to do yuppified families. {I can tell you one thing from a personal perspective. My wife owns a business in town, and a year ago we were having problems with the "tuff guys". Our customers felt threatened coming and leaving the establishment, and calls to the "Po-lice" would result in a temporary hyatus of about 10 minutes.(This affected a few businesses, Wally Jahn took this head on) Being an old school, hard core biker that I am I needed to take the matter into my own hands. After I witnessed them using the F-word towards one of our elderly clients exiting the business, I applied the lacking motherly love to the largest/toughest of the gang. Problem solved.} The cops know of it, laugh about it and wish they could have done it! Apparently I am more effective than the entire NMPD. Wally's case was publicised because one of the punks he detained in his store had parents that disbelieved their little Johnny could be so bad.
We have a few homeless transients who basically dont present much of a problem. They are the much less violent natured, who found it rough going down in Danbury and Waterbury. Apparently the homeless even "re-locate". You dont see the extremely mentally ill like you would in Manhattan. Just really down on your luck people. If you leave your car out of site downtown for a while, just lock your doors.
You should take the hour and a half drive up to New Milford to see for yourself. Park on the Village green, walk the shops. Drive around Candlewood lake. You will never look up "crime" statistics again on the internet..

My mother lives in New Milford, and feels safe most of the time. The super-7 highway extension that recently opened has caused a lot of speeding and accidents, including people being hit on 7. (One older man died.) She had a woman attacked in her area by someone she knew - he broke in and raped her last year. He is in jail now. She sees things here and there, but basically feels safe.

LOL! Good point New Milford is quite SAFE. We (hubby and I) have a small CT home just @ 40 min north of this town near Cornwall Ct. While we stay at our Ct house and not in Maine, we use New Milford for about everything. We can walk out of the movie theatre on Bank St. at 10:40 pm on a weekend and feel perfectly safe. Same with downtown dining. Sure, there are teenagers who are dropped off by parents and they act like kids when the parents leave but I don't see them as nothing more than petty nuicance.

This question was asked in March, but I have enough knowledge of the area to comment. There is no "district" known as The Pickett district. It's a bit confusing, but Pickett District is nothing more than the name of a road that intersects with Rte 7 in southern New Milford about 1/4 mi. south of McDonalds.

There is an old school, (has that late 50's look to it) on the corner of Rte 7, a busy gas station at the other corner. Then some fairly low income apartments on the left as you go around a sharp corner then over R/R tracks no longer in use. Then you drive by the once thriving Kimberly-Clark Corp. which I hear is just about 70% closed. A huge factory, made diapers here at one time! Now just an exo skeleton running only Kleenex tissues and a few people loading trucks. Sad ~We hear about it up here in Cornwall~ ... I recall a parking lot filled with school busses a bit further south, assuming it to be the local bus company. A few odd small companies, then it becomes residential for the last half mile maybee?

That is your "Pickett District" for ya! Hope it helps
