The show was filmed in Hollywood on a Warner Bros Lot, you can take a tour of the set if you are every in Hollywood. Don't mean to be a know- it- all but, my son in law works at Warner Bros and told me about it. You can go on their web site and look into it. I believe the GG town was fashioned after a combination of the small towns in Ct, such as, Washington Depot. I am visiting Ct myself next week and must say I can not wait, I am very anxious to see it all.

Just my 2-cents, but living so close to the Depot myself I just dont see the resemblance to the fictional TV program town. You would be hard pressed to describe the entire downtown area as "more than one block". Its a small town green -bordered by an IGA store, post office, liquor store opposite the town hall building. Diagonal of Jct 109 and 47 is the hardware store and the most expensive gas for miles..
Im not saying it isnt nice by any means...but the "Stars Hollow" was a rather happenin' little town with some elbow room to stroll the streets. My wife, currently peering over my shoulder just added her opinion. "Not even close" she says. {She does plenty of business in town- she is there about 4 times per week on avg.}

Okay. I just got back from CT yesterday. Washington was certainly far off from Stars Hollow. I understand that the INN was just sold for 60M. The Pantry was pretty good. Nice Chicken Wrap, but 10 bucks plus a mandatory 17% tip. Hmmmm. But it was good. I do and I don't like the remoteness. My buddy who drove me there thinks that I might have trouble with the wealth factor. I am not poor, but I cannot afford a M plus second house either.

I would certainly like to hear from some Washington residents who have small children.

Madison is a cute town. Good schools and beaches. More vibrant.

My buddy thinks I should live in Westport. I'm not totally against it, but it seems more LA than I would like.

Westport is very expensive because it is an affluent suburb of New York. If you can't deal with Washington, you definitely won't be able to deal with Westport. If you want to live in Fairfield County I would suggest a slightly more diverse town like Fairfield which while somewhat larger does maintain a nice community feel.

There are many other small towns in Connecticut that meet the "Stars Hollow" ideal. Many have already been suggested. Check them out and I am sure you will find what you are looking for. Jay

BTW

I pay about 8 bucks a gallon on this side of the pond. So that CITGO station in Washington seems like it was giving it away.

You are so right BTB, I just returned yesterday and while I loved it, it is not Stars Hollow. What Connecticut is, is just one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen, I loved it. Now here are some of the things I noticed, the thing about the drivers in CT, tooo true, and a bit frightening, if you can drive in CT, you can drive anywhere. The other thing was all the snooty people, I don't know where they were, every single person I spoke to was kind, considerate, and all together lovely. I will go back again and again.

Wanda, I am glad you reported your visit to us here-thanks!

As for drivers in Connecticut- yup! I agree- and I hate to admit I fit in with those who 'frightened' the hell out of you.

I hope you decide to live here part of the year.

Try driving here in Italy. They are constantly driving in the middle of the road. They park anywhere they like. Stop signs ignored. CT drivers were no comparison.
