Why not? As another poster said, your significant other should compromise with you. If she wants to accept a job in the most rural area in CT, she should live somewhere that will benefit you as well (as in, an area that's commutable to Stamford).

It's almost as if you don't want this to work out, in which case, you're your own worst enemy.

As far as Mohegan and Foxwoods, i didn't mention them because i felt that they're certainly headed toward contraction(layoffs) of their employee base.
They always seem to be accepting marketing/advertising applications. Which makes me think they low pay entry level spots it it's still a start.

I mention framingham and Worcester bc a lot of companies have their "Boston" hq there, including many major developers.

The OP hasnt chimed in much...maybe we scared him off...

Thanks for all the posts everyone. Much appreciated. Like I originally said, nothing is happening now, and won't likely be for months, so right now it's all speculation and gathering of information.

What does your girlfriend do? Why is Her only job prospect in northern CT? That is the only rural part of CT -- ANYwhere else in the state would be better. As everyone has said, the job opportunities in CT (for all professional fields) are limited there, so I'm guessing the only reason she's concentrating on that part of the state is so she can live down the street from mom. Am I right? CT is a small state and she can see her family on the weekends -- move where the opportunities are -- the Stamford, New Haven or Hartford metro areas. If we knew her field we could make some recommendations, but for you, here are some ideas:

Central CT:
ESPN (Bristol)
WFSB (Hartford)
WVIT (Hartford)

Southern CT:
WTNH (New Haven)
News 12 (Norwalk)
The Advocate (Stamford)
NBC Sports (Stamford)
The Jerry Springer Show (Stamford)
The Maury Povich Show (Stamford)
WWE (Stamford)
Blue Sky Studios (Greenwich)

Not to mention all the ad agencies and corporations with in-house digital marketing teams based in the Greenwich/Stamford area. If she won't look in other parts of the state, your problem isn't finding a job - your problem is your girlfriend.

Thanks Jax. Her background is in soil sciences. This is pretty far reaching, so don't think it only means doing farm runoff analysis. The only thing it doesn't mean is living in the middle of a large metropolis. Though yes, most opportunities come up in rural areas, such as NE CT. But not always. They're all over. Just that the economy is very slow everywhere from what I can tell. Very slow.

Her family is in the Portland/Middletown area, so it's not that far from most anywhere in the State, unless you're in the corners.

What you say is true about compromise. We're working at it.

Thanks for the big list. It's appreciated.

TBH OP manchester and that area isn't so hot for what you want to do. As recommended a few times by others, Fairfield County is where you want to be. careful though, its amoung the most expensive(if not the most) counties to live in.

I would feel uncomfortable moving to rural in CT. I mean if you want rural stay where you are. CT meat and potatoes is south and southwest. I would not even let that assumption that if she gets the job in manchester that you guys will be moving there take any ground. I can only hope that you guys are communicating on that.
