Two good bits of news for New Haven. First there will be direct flights from Tweed New Haven Airport to Charlotte next year. Great for traveling around the country.

Second is a bookstore is going to be opening on York Street. Nice. Jay

This isn't New Haven, but a big development in Milford. There's another huge one on Exit 36 with a Big Y, apartments, and hotels too currently under construction.

And a Hilton Garden Inn being built in downtown New Haven in one of the last areas that could use a boost:

What is interesting about the second article is the mention that alive Work Learn Play, the developer of the New Haven Colosseum site is talking to Spinaker about partnering on the project. Spinaker is very good at completing projects so if they do get involved I would think we could finally see something built there. Jay

Yeah, sounds like LWLP is getting long tired of the project. That would be great if Spinnaker could make it happen.

With the news of that Hilton Garden Hotel, New Haven will soon have 7 downtown hotels, up from the current 4 downtown hotels. In addition to the Hilton, the hotel being built on George St near High St looks almost complete, and the Graduate Hotel is being built to replace the ol' Duncan. It will be interesting to see if the older Omni Hotel gets an upgrade in order to compete, and to see if the rate of bookings across the hotels remain the same. Separately, the Pirelli building by the New Haven Ikea is also supposed to be a hotel, but I think that one will attract more I-95 travelers and compete less with the ones downtown.

Downtown New Haven and Yale is way cooler than Downtown Stamford

The Omni needs a major upgrade. Two years, we had family visiting town for an event and they stayed at the Omni. The rooms were dingy, old and dark. Hardly worth the price charged. Agree - if they want to compete with other newer hotels in the area, they better step it up.

Right now hotels in downtown fill up quickly, and a lot of people visiting the city wind up in Milford/Orange or other suburban hotels. Should be good. Milford also has 2 new hotels being built.
