Default Does anyone commute from Simsbury to Hartford?

I'm wondering how bad the commute is from Simsbury to Hartford. We've looked at a bunch of homes in West Hartford, Glastonbury and Farmington. So far, we haven't found anything we love. Simsbury and Avon are next on our list. I think we may be able to find something we really like in Simsbury, but I'm worried about the commute. On most days, my husband and I currently have a 20-25 minute commute to work, mainly on I-84. I'd rather not commute for much longer than that.

How is the traffic to/from Simsbury? We travel during rush hour in the morning, but we both work pretty late. Rush hour traffic shouldn't be too much of an issue for us at night. How bad is the commute during bad weather? I know Mountain Road isn't a great commute, but what about some of the other main roads? Are there any better/faster ways to get to Hartford? Thanks for your help.

NY2CT - I do not live in Simsbury, but I have inlaws that do and they use to commute into Hartford (they now work in the valley). Simsbury is about 12 miles from downtown Hartford, but it is all back-roads (no highways). Without traffic this trip will take you about 25 to 30 minutes. With traffic a bit longer, but not too much. It all depends on where you live in Simsbury and where you work in Hartford. Hartford Road (Route 185) is busy, but not horrible and I would much prefer using it to using Route 44 to commute. My inlaws do too. There will be sections of your commute that will require you to wait at traffic signals for one or two cycles (green lights), but not more than that. So it is not too bad.

If you haven't been able to find a home you like in the other towns you looked in, then by all means check out Simsbury. My inlaws LOVE it. Beautiful homes, lots of trees, wonderful parks, convenient shopping, excellent schools. There is a lot to offer there.

If you still unsure of the commute, get up early one morning and do a test run. Drive out to Simsbury aned then drive to your office and see how bad it is. I do not think you will find it that bad. Good luck, Jay

it takes about twenty minutes, from my house at least. I live in Simsbury on the avon line, much closer to 44 than 185 (the bloomfield route). Its not bad at all. It depends where you are. If you are waaaay out in nw simsbury near farmland, the commute may be over 30 minutes. anyway its a beautiful town and im glad to see weve attracted the interest of more new yorkers
