Default job in Stamford, live near Hartford move?

Hi, I will be taking a job in Stamford and I live near Hartford. My wife works in Hartford so we want to move halfway toward Stamford so we can both take a train to work, she works in Hartford. What towns are good halfway points with easy access to a train/bus in both directions and safe with good pricing for apartments rental?

thank you
Joe

There isn't adequate commuter train service to Hartford, so your wife will likely not be taking a train in. CT Transit has many commuter buses, some with express routes if you want to go the mass transit route. Van pools are pretty convenient to, it is called Easy Street and many pools leave from various commuter lots all over the state.

As for commuting into Stamford, taking Metro North in is a wise-choice. I don't know what your budget is but I would look at the Metro North website to determine how long of a ride you are willing to do. You can live along the New Haven line (which includes all shoreline stops from Stamford to New Haven) or towards Danbury. Danbury to Stamford has through trains during peak hours but I believe you have to transfer in South Norwalk during off-peak hours. Also as I am sure you know, the further you live away from Stamford, the cheaper it will be.

Joe99 - Stamford is about 80 miles from Hartford so there are a lot of towns in between. The problem is that there is not really good commuter bus or train service from towns half way in between to either city. This is particularly true for Hartford which is very car commuting oriented. One option may be to live in/around New Haven and for you to commute on Metro-North into Stamford and your wife to join a car/van pool to Hartford. I believe Rideshare is the van pool company for the Hartford area. You can check their website for information. Good luck, Jay

I live in north have which is about halfway between the two cities. it is a brutal commute to Stamford, about a 2 hour drive in the morning, its a 45 minute train ride on days when i can take that. I would suggest Milford, but your wife will have a brutal time to Hartford. There is no easy way, one of you will have to bite the bullett on that one
