I landed a job in Stamford, Connecticut and am looking for places to live, but when I go on craigslist, they do not have a listing for this area, or any nearby as it seems. I am looking for a place within half an hour, that is young and upbeat since I am 24. I currently live in Buffalo which has a young town with bars and a lot always going on. I want to find a similar place in or around Connecticut! Please help!

On Craigslist, it is a subregion of NYC labeled FFLD for Fairfield County. You should check out Zillow for rentals. Stamford is in one of the most expensive areas in the country. Housing will be nearly double that of Buffalo, as will utilities.

Best bet is to live in downtown Stamford. The rest of the town is kind of dead.

I'd suggest, as others have, to live downtown. There are a ton of great areas downtown. The city IS downtown, really. The rest of Stamford is very residential and very family-friendly and safe. Downtown has a lot of bars/restaurants and a large amount of young residents. It's only 44 mins by train to NYC, and about an hour by car, give or take the day and time.

Loaded question. Because of traffic and a lack of public transportation, a NJ commute isn't really practical from CT.
You can commute by train to NYC from anywhere on the New Haven line or its closer offshoots. It's 90 minutes from New Haven at the furthest point on the main line and under 40 minutes from Greenwich.

Btw a lot of people live in NYC and commute to Stamford. It's expensive, but there's no comparison if you're looking for lively.

I am assuming you mean for one person to work in Stamford and another to work in New York or New Jersey. In Connecticut, Stamford would be best. Commuting to New Jersey from Connecticut will not be easy but it is doable. A lot will depend where in New Jersey you are talking about though. Bergen County would not be far by car but you would have to commute through Westchester County and traffic can be tough. If you are talking about commuting to places like southern New Jersey or even Jersey City, it can get tougher. It might then be better to live in Manhattan and comute out to Stamford and into Neew Jersey. Jay

No, I am moving by myself for a job in Stamford, but I have been looking at apartments there and I am only working an entry level position as a production assistant and the places I have scene in Stamford are more expensive then when I was originally looking to live in nyc. So now I need to figure out surrounding areas of COnnecticut or nyc that would be affordable for me to be living by myself and commuting to work. And since I'm from Buffalo I have no idea of the nyc or Stamford area, and google isn't a great help telling me if its a younger town and area since I am only 24. So I'm really looking for where a single young girl can live in or around Stamford for a reasonable price and with an upbeat live young community.
