Hi,

I'll be moving with my wife and 8 month old to Connecticut. I'll be working in New Haven, and my wife in Norwalk.

I have been wondering where to live. We'd be renting, trying to get a 3 or 4 bedroom house. I've been thinking about Milford, Orange, Perhaps also even, Stratford, Trumbull, Shelton. Are these all reasonable places to think about? Or would Trumbull and Shelton be far.

Thanks,

Depends on budget, whether you want to buy eventually and your budget for buying, and what kind of town you want. For example, Trumbull and Milford have very different feels for the most part.

Since the commute to Norwalk would be more difficult due to heavy traffic, I would suggest living closer to it than New Haven. I would recommend Fairfield. It is a nice town with a lot of rentals and would be closer to Norwalk than Stratford, Milford, Shelton or Trumbull. You do not mention a budget so it is hard to say if Fairfield which will be pricier is in your range. Jay

Thanks for the replies.

Budget would be somewhere around $2000, maybe slightly more for the right place. I don't anticipate buying soon though.

Would the Fairfield to New Haven commute be somewhere around 30 min? Is it counter the usual traffic?

THanks

My wife did the milford to norwalk commute for a few years a long time ago. It was bad then. JayCt is giving great advice.

Actually it depends on where in Norwalk. Do you know? Most of the time when there's traffic, it starts in Fairfield.

For instance, I commute to far eastern Norwalk from Milford and it's easy. Most days it's 25-30 minutes. On really bad days I just take back roads off the highway and it's more like 40-45. However, if I had to commute to Norwalk on the Darien side, that would be another story. Although I'd probably just take backroads at some point. If her job is near a train station, there's that option too.

Fairfield to New Haven would be about 35-45 minutes depending on traffic, and it usually starts in eastern West Haven.

Fairfield's a nice place to live and all, but you're not finding a nice house rental at your budget. Fairfield is expensive. A decent 3-4 BR in Fairfield is going to be more like $2500+.

You're better off with Stratford, Milford and Shelton at your budget. Where depends on what you like in a town.
