Looking for rental in Connecticut, working in NY
My wife and I are looking for an apartment/rental house in Connecticut. I'll be working in Manhattan, and we're looking for an interim rental before we buy. What would be the best places for :
- Within 1 hr commute
- safe, quiet area
- more small town feel than big city
- rental from 2000-3000
schools aren't important, house would be preferred.
Thanks for any leads!

Have you looked at Stamford?
The city has many rents, excellent shopping and fine restaurants. Cost of living is rather high as it's in among the most expensive areas in the nation, but for $3000 you can probably get yourself a good sized place. You may even be able to afford a townhouse in Greenwich, but cost of living here is eye-popping.
Stamford is very safe, and you can take Metro North into Grand Central from the train station downtown.
Also if you don't mind living in NY, White Plains is another good suggestion.
I'm sure others who know more about Stamford will post as well.

To be an hour from Manhatten you would be in the heart of expensive Fairfield County. In your price range that would mean Stamford or Norwalk. Both are small cities but there are areas in both that have a small town feel. People here talk well about the Springdale section of Stamford.
Another option in your price range would be Fairfield. It is a great diverse town with excellent schools, shopping, restaurants, entertainment, parks, beaches and family activities. The train into Manhattan would take a little over an hour, but it is well worth the ride (IMHO). there are other posts about Fairfield so I would check them out as well. Good luck and welcome, Jay

Forgot to add, check craigslist.com for rental. There is a way to get Fairfield County listings through the New York City Boards. Jay

Hello,
I am currently looking for someone to take over my lease in Stamford CT. It is in a beautiful apartment complex called The Fairfield which you can google if you like. I am currently in a two bedroom and I am currently paying 2130 for it. I am eager to move because i was sharing with my sister, and she decided to move in with her bf on Long Island so I am eager to get into a cheaper place. My email is kristinajohanson@yahoo.com if you want to contact me. Thanks and good luck.

Yes I agree Fairfield is the better choice, small town feel, great downtown, Beeches and back country area for biking, hiking etc. 1 hour commute to the city. I have well researched town comparison charts, I can dig them up for you
Good luck with your search
I know the area very well, you can Direct message me
