I guess Best Buy loves the Northeast, looks like the only closures in the whole region are a couple in and around Boston, one in RI and one in upper Manhattan.

They have a near-monopoly in this region. PC Richards is their only real competitor. How is it elsewhere?

They clearly expanded too rapidly at one point. It's the bain of so many of these big chain stores. Lowes will be next, just watch.

I was hoping WalMart would be next, but that won't be happening unfortunately.

Totally agree that these big-box franchises expanded to quickly. But the sad thing is this is nothing new. Big-box stores close all the time, sometimes just a few locations other times altogether. Remember Media Play? Or The Wiz? We used to have a bunch of these stores nearby on the turnpike. Not anymore.

Interestingly, as some of these stores cut back on locations, it seems other ones get an advantage either by opening a new location or drawing that store's clientele.

what scares me is that Borders initally announced only a few select store closings a mere months before they closed altogether. hope BB doesn't follow suit. if BB goes down, that'll be 2 of my favorite stores gone within 1-2 years.

It's never just a few stores.

In addition to borders, I remember when Linens N Things and Circuit City said the same thing. And DHL said the same thing too come to think of it.

Its about location. You and I can buy the franchise and pick a prime location and it will do good. Thats probably why only a select few are closing. Best Buy is not going bankrupt so the other stores will remain.

Walmart is FAAAR from being bankrupt. You would be shocked to see their numbers.

A competitor of Best Buy used to be The Wiz, but now PC Richards. Best Buy in Norwalk had NO competitors until PC moved in on the same road.

Question for people buying the franchise is; Do you move into an area to take competitors customers or do you move into an area where none are around.

Here are the latest financials for 4 Retailers. I picked up on 3 things real quick:

1. Walmart is booming year over year. Thats 447 BILLION dollars in revenue.
2. Home Cheapo revenue was less year over year after 2009 but back up this past year but still below 2009 levels. So they havent generated more than 70.3 billion since before 2009..
3. Cost of goods going up.

I'm glad to see no Best Buy stores closing their doors here in CT....it's my favorite showroom to visit before I order on Amazon.

Geeze, people actually like best buy? It's the biggest rip off in town. PLEASE I hope they exit the market.

The only thing I'd be afraid of is amazon not having to entice people to buy from them with BB out of business. I still hate best buy though.

yeah some items in best buy I will scan with the Amazom price app and if I see it's cheaper I will order on the spot with prime and get lunch and head home.

BestBuy knows people showroom but it's hard for them to match those prices.
