Personally, towns like Avon, Simsbury and Canton have appeal. West Hartford, imo, is too close to Hartford and there is a much higher crime rate that the towns I just mentioned. Also, the traffic there is hideous.

Living away from a highway can be a very good thing. Crime rates are lower when there isn't the ability to hop on and off the highway.

Our children went to NW Catholic (good school!) and we lived (and still live in West Simsbury).

Hey France,

The closest apartments to that area are at Avon Place. A quick google search will bring it up. Close to W. Hartford and will keep you close to your work in Simsbury. Don't know if they offer fully furnished as that tends to be a rarity. Sounds like your co. is not giving you a very good trail of bread crumbs to follow.

If you want, I can also send you listed rentals in those towns (Simsbury, Avon, Farmington, and any other you are interested in). These tend to be houses and condominiums that are listed through real estate agencies. There is an outside chance that you may find one that is furnished but not likely. Hope it helps. Send me a direct message if you have any further real estate questions about the area.

First time I'm hearing about West Hartford and high crime rate in this forum?! We've been househunting for about 3 weeks now, and are converging in on West Hartford...I don't want to end up with buyer's remorse! Is this a commonly held perception? What kind of crimes are we talking about?

Thanks

Check city data for crime in West Hartford.
In 2005 the number was 178. Average nationally was 352.
I would hardly call the crime rate 'high'.

hi france123
your job is in Simsbury? there are many little country towns within 30 minutes to an hour that your kids may be more welcomed in. I have been to TN, and it is quite rural, and the Northeast can be quite a culture shock. I don't know your circumstances, but I can say that as far as CT private schools go, Your kids would do better in public school, as many have pointed out to you. Is your home to be in Simsbury? If it is, public is great. If not, try locating to a more rural-eastern town, smaller communities, better schools. Andover, Hebron, Bolton, Marlborough, etc. If your kids are yuppies, then Simsbury is for you.

If you are going to reside by yourself, Hartford or any other city apartment should do. CT is not a huge state, you will be best served to be central in Hartford County. Just look in the Hartford Courant, tons of listings there. Ctnow.com
Good luck.
get your kids in a smaller town, education is key, and the classes are smaller. Bolton, Andover, Marlborough and Hebron have more than plenty of homes in the 450k-750k range. The kids are not as street wise here--good thing!!

Pebblebrook is located on the edge of New Britain near West Farms. The area is safe and convenient, but the units are old. Good luck, Jay

Default Try East of the River

Have you considered South Windsor? Safe, growing community, excellent schools and only 10 miles or so to Simsbury via the Bissell Bridge.
