I do better at home too when I have things to do. Less distractions, more relaxed.

Addendum to my previous post: I think psychologically, the ability to Work from Home provides subordinates with a rewarded sense of trust. E.g. Boss is trusting me with the ability to be flexible with working hours/working arrangements -- essentially being out of sight -- while still getting my job done. Positive reinforcement makes employees to perform better.

With regard to Aetna removing their building from logos/id cards/branding, they appointed a new CEO last year and also went through a marketing shake-up where they revamped a lot of publically available material. So I think it is mere coincidence that the building is no longer there, but I'd be less inclinced to think that it's a "sign of things to come."

Part of it, too, is with Healthcare Reform taking place, Aetna likes its close geographical presence to lawmakers in Hartford. After all, Connecticut is considered the 2nd most advanced state with setting up its Healthcare Reform insurance exchanges for employers (with #1 going to Massachusetts because they've already had an Exchange system set up for over 5 years). Aetna is doing their best to stay the forefront of those political discussions, as they modify their business strategy to adapt to the new insurance landscape.

With regard to ING, I had heard that they were spinning off from their European parent company. I'm not sure how deep they are into that process so take it for what it's worth.

With regard to The Hartford, I want to echo one of the previous comments about losing credibility behind their brand. They would be foolish to completely leave Connecticut, but I can't blame them for consolidating office space and moving into a smaller, nearby location within the Greater Hartford area.
