Doesn't Oakwood have some type of outdoor field in Portland along route 17?

Hartwell may have some competitive teams for older children but they run the recreational soccer program in town and that is open to all children. Those competitive teams do travel throughout the northeast including New England, New York and New Jersey. The recreational teams start in Pre-K (I think age 4).

This weekend was Hartwell's Spring Tournement so there were out of state cars all over town including New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Vermont. Just about every open field in town had something going on relating to this event. There will be another one in the Fall too.

Oakwood does now have a field in Portland. I don't know much about what is done there though. Jay

There are several public pools in town. The high school has an indoor pool that is open certain hours in the evenings and on weekends.

There is an outdoor pool at Addison Park in North Glastonbury and the Grange Pool on Hopewell Road in South Glastonbury. The town also offers swimming at Eastbury Pond in East Glastonbury. I think the outdoor pools will open Memorial Day weekend and only on weekends after that until school gets out in June. Check the Park and Recreation website for more information.

As for swim clubs, there are several. The three I know of are Orchard Hill on Overlook Road, Minnichaug on Manchester Road, Pine Brook on Forrest Lane and Rock Ledge on Hopewell. There is also Glenbrook on Oak Street in East Hartford that some Glastonbury families join. All of these are private clubs and have a limited number of members. You should apply now if you want to join one for this summer. They can be hard to get in. We did not join one when we moved to town (we have a pool) but since have made friends who are members of Orchard Hill and I now kind of regret not joining when the kids were younger. There is a great social program at all of them and the facilities are very nice. Jay

I think you will love that area of town. A lot of families with kids join the pool clubs such as Pine Brook, Minnechaug, Orchard Hill, and Woodledge. You would probably be closest to Orchard Hill. I think joining one of these clubs would be a great way to meet a lot of new people. Other than that, there are pools at Addison Park, the high school which are public. There is also a pool at Glastonbury Hills Country Club, but I am not sure if that is what you are inquiring about. Personally I would look into one of the four pool clubs listed above. Good luck!
