Making sure that the residents of each town are the ones that enjoy the most the beaches maintained with their tax dollars.

Don't want to pay? Then don't drive to the beach. You can go walking and it will be completely free.

Yup, nice to know out of town/state people wont use and abuse the local beaches here in CT and create local traffic.

But then again, $20 is cheaper than Jones beach and cleaner than Orchard beach. It would be chaotic if they were free to use.

One example was Seaside Avenue in Stamford. They passed a law that residents needed stickers to park on the streets near the beach. This was because out of towners would use Cove Park and park on the side roads to walk in for free. I was happy they required stickers to park there.

I actually am a resident of the one I'm mad about. The problem is I have my boat there, they dont give visitor passes and it makes it complicated and annoying as hell to have guests out on my boat..

And meanwhile I'll enjoy the twelve or so miles of Park Point, which is accessible from several free parking spots, including ones right next to the water

Last year misquamicut jumped to $28 for out of state. Its so inaccessible, shoreline management is a joke. No one actually owns the beach yet access is so difficult, reserved for the few. And then the rules are piled on...no alcohol, no smoking, no dogs, no ball throwing, no hole digging. Might as well just have the military set up camp on the shore and nanny-state everyone away.

Yep for now right? I am surprised they haven't levied an entrance fee yet.

Although in Milford they need to make it more seamless to get parking stickers. Always a pain to get them at the town hall. They should dole them out when we mail in our tax payments.

To some extent, it's designed to keep "others" out, I'll leave it at that.....

Not unique to CT though, the NY towns along the Hudson and the Sound do it with most of their parks/beaches too. Keep in mind that along all of this there is at least one park or beach that's kind of semi-affordable to the public though. And (turning the coin around so to speak), even Seaside Park in Bridgeport is pretty pricey for non-residents in the warm months.
