Yes costs do add up. The estimate listed here (although few years old) seems out of the world. The quotes I have been getting is around 8000 just for a 30feet x 2.5feet retaining wall. I felt that is way too high.

I did not go with John, but looking back I probably should have. We ended up using the guy who did our walkway. We're fairly happy with it, but I feel that John's work might have been a little cleaner/neater/detailed.

Sure. The plan is for a walkway around my house connecting the driveway to a patio, which is going to be about 30 x 20. I'm guessing I'll end up with bluestone but that's TBD and depends on price.
