My parents have a pair of original, rare paintings and I'm looking to help them sell them. The last time they had them appraised they had a pretty good value.

Any suggestions for an in-state resource to sell them to, or perhaps an auction house?

Also, need suggestions on somewhere that will make high res archival scans of the paintings so we can have them printed and framed. There is sentimental value to the paintings and I think they would want them preserved in that way in their home.

What comes to mind quickly is Fairfield Auction House if selling directly to an auction is a possibility for you. I believe they are physically in Monroe.

There is also a woman in Old Lyme named Patricia Shippee. She has an art consulting business- she does fine art appraisals, but more importantly for you, she she also acts as a consultant. She has clients looking for certain things and acts a middleman ( middlewoman) to put buyer and seller together for private sales.

If you told her what you have, she may someone interested or could find a private collector for you. No idea what she would ask as a fee, depends on value.

For a scan of the paintings, try Photographic Solutions in Norwalk. They can do those high resolution scans and then produce giclee prints of the art work. Giclees look almost real and then your folks can have them framed.

Everyone has a website today, so I'm sure you can get more info on any of the above off Google.

Good luck

I've heard good things about Linda Stamm (Plainville CT -- Hartford/ Litchfield area). Her auction house is called Winter Associates.

I would think for the best price you would head more towards New York. If you want to stay in Connecticut look for an art dealer in Greenwich or Stamford. I don't have any names though. Jay
