This is just an observation of mine, but could be a misconception. Do a lot of people who live on the shoreline of CT send their high schoolers away to boarding school? I understand that the public schools there are wonderful, but so are most boarding schools. Is there a large number of kids who go away for high school in this area?

In Greenwich, New Canaan and Darien - yes, many kids go away to boarding schools - and this is where the public schools are the best in the country. In other parts of the state (the upper-middle class burbs), lots of kids go to private Catholic high schools.

Most, however, go to public schools, even in the very affluent towns. We pay VERY high taxes here, but we also have great schools. Might as well take advantage of it.

Agreed. I mainly grew up on the shoreline and no one I knew went to boarding school. Granted, I didn't grow up in the most affluent shoreline towns (Greenwich, Darien, et al) but friends of mine who did either went to public or private day school. Friends of mine who didn't go to public school went to Fairfield Prep, Laurelton Hall, etc.
