Hi everyone, I'm planning to move to North Canaan from Delaware and I will like some info in where are the good places to live in North Canaan, close to all types of public transportation, and Hospital. If is possible will like to know the rent prices per area and where is the place for pet friendly since I have two dogs. How is tha Ambiance there, like places to see, eat, visit, nature parks etc

I'm looking for 3 bedrooms anything low ground tire of stairs if possible a duplex or single house or apt that accepts animals, this is crucial.

Also how is the job market? especially for Insurance biller and Pharmacy Tech.

North Canaan is a small rural town in northwestern Connecticut. There is not much there and there are few jobs. I doubt there is any public transportation and I think the nearest hospital is an hour or so away. Are you sure that this is where you will be living or is it New Canaan which is in southwestern Connecticut? Jay

Then yes, that would be North Canaan. This is a rural area with not a lot of amenities you are looking for. Why are you moving there? It is beautiful but not much there. Jay

Are you absolutely certain it's North Canaan ? North Canaan is a rural town with like 3300 people living there, give or take some. It's about as out of the way as you can get for Connecticut.

There's really nothing there except beautiful scenery. No hospitals, no public utilities, everything is on wells and septic systems. You will need a car. I believe there is a Stop and Shop supermarket ( our big regional chain store), plus you can probably find a chain pharmacy, convenience store, etc. Those are everywhere today. .

There may be some limited bus transportation- perhaps along the line of a shuttle bus down to Torrington, Winsted, maybe even into Hartford. . But you're going to have to be very car dependent.

Basically no job market, you'd have to do quite a bit of daily driving to get to an area where there are jobs. That said there are a couple of hospitals within 30 miles or so to North Canaan in NY state. One is in Hudson, NY the other in Rhinebeck, NY.

For rentals, don't expect much. That tiny population doesn't support much in the way of rentals. Check on Craigslist ( CT- Northwest) or work with a local real estate agent. It's usually free to you. As for the items on your poll, I think you're gong to be disappointed. You seem to have some expectations of an amenity level that just doesn't exist in the town itself. Most things can be found in northwest CT, but again lots of driving .

Good luck

North Canaan does have a major grocery store and a few convenience stores, but that's about it. It is a beautiful rural town. However, it is also rather depressed, and is a low income kind of town. No adequate public transportation and no jobs in the area at all.

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume you work for BD or someone you know does? Its usually the only reason people move there from out of state. As others have pointed out north Canaan is very low key. 1 grocery, 1 McDonald's, 1 pharmacy, a few local shops, 1 car dealer...you get the idea. There is no public transportation. There are a few condos. More shopping can be found over the border in great barrigton, ma or in Torrington, ct. Winter there is tough...that area is called the "ice box" and usually has higher snow totals, I'd recommend a 4wd or awd. They have a town festival called railroad days which is pretty cool tho.

I have to see if I have pics of the town of Canaan when I went to hike Mt. Bear. It's a small town with nothing but peace and scenery. Far from everything but if you like the life outside a typical demand everything around you style then its fine.

And yeah, ice box of CT is right. I wonder if having tirechains there is legal. There was a part of Canaan I past where I thought there were too many cars but that's just me.

It is on my Top 10 list of places to live in the state.
