still looking at homes and running out of time. thoughts on Katona Drive- a cut through street off of Black Rock Turnpike?? Will there be lots of cars on this street or the occasional? have 2 young kids- so want a pretty quiet street. do many cut through this street? Also- there is black stuff that looks like mold on the lower portion of the basement wall and home has a sump pump- could it be something other than mold? should this be a major concern or the norm in a basement? its an estate sale- so there is no disclosure. thank you for any advice!

That isn't a specific shortcut to anywhere so the traffic you see when you visit the house is probably a good rough gauge. Everyone has a different definition of "quiet street" so it's hard to say other than that's not a major road or through street. Regarding the possible mold/other, if you are very interested in the house mention your concerns to your home inspector and have them take a very hard look at that area. If it needs some kind of remediation get an estimate from a licensed contractor and either have the sellers take care of it or have a credit at closing given back.

Black mold is bad. but not all "black stuff" is bad black mold. You should have the home inspected and tested for the presence of mold, particularly hazardous ones. With two young kids, I wouldn't mess around.

As for the road, I don't see it as a cut through street either, though not sure what kind of neighborhood it is. What is your budget and requirements? Or have you already made an offer and had it accepted?

I would say Katona Drive is a cut through street and has a lot of traffic, more between Judd and Black Rock Turnpike since people commonly use is to avoid traffic in the business area. Still it is a nice street. I have friends that live right off it and like the area. They can walk to all the great store on Black Rock Turnpike. Jay
