Doesn't make any sense. They have no kids and they don't need to commute to NYC or Stamford daily, why deal with the extremely high rent and traffic?

Look at the map. Hartford is central, near I84 and I91, right smack in the middle of his work area. I'd recommend West Hartford or Manchester (Manchester is cheaper, less upscale town center, but more big box shopping.)

Default By the sea, by the sea, by the beautiful sea

You've mentioned the shore a few times.. there are nice towns you might enjoy..
Old Saybrook, Guilford is lovely.. Madison, quaint too.. Living daily near the shore and its numerous amenities might supersede living too close to shopping.. which you will do on occasion versus seeing the ocean often and the calm it brings.
There are malls you can still get to.
If you were thinking closer to Hartford there are beautiful towns to its west and down I 81.

Yes.

I live close to the water and see it everyday. It's a stress reliever.

I would probably choose Clinton because of the access to salt water. Deep River probably has less property crime, largely because Clinton has the outlets and the "crime" there would skew the town's results.

So, I'd go with Clinton. Both are great towns though.

Yep. Was going to suggest the coast east of New Haven.
