Haddam, Chester, Litchfield, Morris, Warren, New Hartford, Coventry, Haddam, East Hampton, Mansfield, Deep River.

I know you said you didn't want to be in Danbury, but what about New Fairfield, Sherman, Brookfield, Bridgewater? All fairly rural/quiet and near Candlewood and Lillononah, which are big boating/lake attractions. Also closer to jobs than the many isolated towns mentioned.

Lots of options. Being near a lake/boating recreation in a rural area brings up A LOT of places. Need to know budget, job needs, what kind of character you want the town to be (COMPLETELY isolated and just woods, or a small town center), etc.

For natural beauty and parks, I'd personally either choose the lower CT River Valley and shore (Old Saybrook, Essex, Chester, etc) or the northern Housatonic area (Kent, Cornwall, Litchfield, etc). They offer the most, not just random trees and an occasional lake, but some really stunning beauty and more of a variety.

As mentioned, Morris/Bantam Lake area might what you want. It is more affordable than the area surrounding Candlewood Lake and way, way more affordable than the area surrounding Lake Waramaug which would be another choice. Of course, you didn't mention a budget.. if money is no object, anywhere could be on the table. Those are the biggest and nicest lakes in the state though.

Columbia, Lebanon, Mansfield would work well for you. Colchester possibly as well.

You'll get the "out there" feel without the E TN weirdness and be 20 minutes to big city stuff.

I was thinking the same thing. But this thread has little to do with the "failing" economy in CT, so his absence is expected.

I was thinking Colchester, East Hampton or Coventry. Nice smaller towns. East Hampton and coventry have lakes that are nice. Plus you still are not too far from Hartford. Jay
