I live in the northeastern part of Marlborough. It has a rural feel but it really isn't rural..Whole Foods is about 9 miles away from my house. So yes, I can't walk to a store but I am not exactly in the boondocks. School are very good and there is a tight community feel in town. Many parents are involved with their kid's activities, in the schools, etc. The town is mainly middle and upper middle class but it is very down to earth and lacks pretentiousness.

I can be in downtown Hartford in about 20 minutes WITHOUT traffic. With the morning rush once kids are back in school, it is more like 30 minutes. Feel free to ask me anything if you'd like to know more.

I've heard some really great things about your town and would recommend it for the OP as well.

We relocated from NY to Glastonbury....taxes are a little high but schools are tops and you will find a decent house for that price range.....Glastonbury is for sure in your top choices, and only about 8 miles frm Hartford, maybe less depending on what part of town you buy.

I agree with the others that there are many towns that fit your needs. Glastonbury and South Windsor are two very good choices. Certainly West Hartford would be good too. You also might want to consider Rocky Hill, Wethersfield and Newington. When you get further out than these towns though, your commute can get longer. Still these are excellent towns to consider. Oh, and if you have not seen it in other posts, the link below will give you information on schools in Connecticut. Jay

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to check back in as I had promised to. We bought a house in Colchester, northwest part of town. We are really happy here. My commute into downtown and it takes me about a half hour and my husband's commute into Middletown is about 20 minutes. Grocery store is 10 minutes away.

Thank you all so much!
