My daughter got a speeding ticket in CT a few weeks ago. It said on their website that it was 1 point and if she paid the ticket no points would be given. So she paid the ticket. She is still on my insurance and I called my insurance company (State Farm) anonymously and asked if the point would make my insurance go up. The person said that 1 point would not send my insurance up, but I don't believe what they say.

Also, how often does CT report to NJ on violations? Would it only come up when my insurance is up for renewal?

Thanks,

Yes, CT will report to NJ. Both states are members of the IDLC (Interstate Drivers License Compact) and of the INVC (Interstate Nonresident Violator Compact). The states exchange info. on moving violations committed by non-residents with the state where the driver resides, so that that information can be added to the record of the driver.

I don't know how often they report, but the ticket should show up on your next renewal (as long as the renewal is more than 45 days from the day it is posted to your license).

I too have the same situation as I was driving on I-395 N near Putnam on dec 9th when it was raining heavily and I skidded off the road and hit the railing and the cop issued the ticket for "Traveling too fast for Conditions" and a $132 fine. I am from NJ and would like to know if pleading not-guilty and appearing in court would lower the fine and reduce my points ?

I called up the NJ DMV and they said that if I get points in CT then I will get 2 points by default. Any advice on how I should proceed.

CT may report to other states but not to insurance companies. The state actually charges insurance companies to pull a driving record. I've gotten multiple speeding, and other various tickets and my insurance has consistently gone down. It will only be a problem if you switch insurance companies and they pull your daughters record.

Most people don't know this subject well. The only real way to get an answer is to check with the New Jersey DMV.

I have a Connecticut license and recently got a speeding ticket in New York. CT DMV told me that as long as I took care of the ticket in NY, it wouldn't affect my CT driving record. I was pleasantly surprised.

I'll also say that this was my 7th ticket in 35 years of driving and none of these tickets have increased my insurance. My understanding is that once you're an established customer, the insurance companies run yourn driving record only if a claim involving you is filed.

Good luck and don't worry too much about it.

And people say CT drivers are bad.

Here we have not one, but TWO new jersey residents openly confessing to driving dangerously in our state (or to knowing someone who is driving dangerously in our state), expecting us to HELP those drivers escape the consequences of their driving. Seriously?

Driving dangerously???? How do you know they were driving dangerously? Most states have increased their speed limits to normal levels around 70-80mph but here in CT we stick to a primitive 65 only because its such a cash cow for the state. I understand we need to have a lower limit in congested areas but places like 395 past the casinos or rt8 in the northwestern corridor most people travel 80mph so why not just increase the limit? As long people aren't weaving in and out of lanes cutting other motorists off its a bit illogical to consider speeding "dangerous driving".

Go ahead flame away everyone!

55 is the limit here in the Danbury area on I-84. There are almost never cops here and I comfortably cruise about 72-75 while being safe. I agree about Route 8 being low, as when I went up to Torrington I was going about 80 and getting passed.
