They get $9 million if they hire 200 people by 2013. Deloitte hires that many every year around Sept 1. So divide $9 million by 200 and you get $45,000/employee. So Deloitte can pay new hires roughly 55K, while 45K is subsidized by the taxpayers. Net cost to partners of 10k/employee.

Deloitte would be required to hire these 100-200 new hires regardless (i.e. they need them to service their clients due to burnout attrition) - but at least they get them for free for two years. Smart McKinsey style management thinking at the expense of the Housatonic CC taxpayer.

With benefits, a 55k employee cost $75k or more, so Deloitte's cost would be 30k per employee. Plus of course, there was no guarantee the 1,153 other jobs stayed. I'm sure Cuomo would have cut them a deal to move across the state line-could still service Ct clients' with ease.

And the transfer of wealth from the middle class and poor to the rich elites continue. Yay Capitalism.

Agreed. This is why I'm leaning toward voting for Obama in Nov, as well as Linda McMahon. They are both for cutting taxes for the middle class.

Deloitte will retain its 1,153 employees in the state, according to a news release from Malloy's office. The positions range from entry level to high-level executive jobs, according to the statement.
Under the agreement, $9 million will be awarded if the 1,153 jobs are retained and 200 jobs are created by the end of 2013. According to the governor's office, $2.5 million will be awarded if the company retains the 1,353 jobs and creates 150 by the end of 2018. If the company retains 1,353 jobs and creates 300 in that same period, $5.5 million will be awarded

There goes the economic development of the state again: buying corporations. UBS, Windhym Hotels, Waste Mgt., the $300,000,000 to that Maine Genome company to bring in 300 jobs, Gen Dyn., etc.

If we look to leave; maybe they could pay individuals to stay?

Here goes Sol Lewinsky, and Trostky at it again. Why don't you read Milton Friedman's work. Work hard, make money (I have seen a lot of individuals with just high school degrees become multi-millionaires).

Share the wealth. How about the welfare recipients giving back there money to the people whom work. Please go live in England, make less money, pay more taxes and live in some 1300sqft row house. You'll have National Health Service free medical, but I would love to see an American go to a hospital and be in a room with 15 people or woman delivering in a ward with 15 other women with one OB/GYN and 15 mid-wives. Need to see a kidney specialist, wait in line for six months. How do I know, my wife is a Brit.

If the middle class/lower classes were smart - they'd fight to get the estate tax back in place. Everyone should have the right to work hard/make it big and enjoy the fruits of his labor. But passing billions of wealth from one generation to the next should be outlawed.

The "hazy glass half full" look is that if, one day, CT's economy tanks (more so than it has presently), the cost of living up in CT would eventually normalize after many years of being in a super recession.
Wrong They leave because taxes are too high. Somebody tell Malloy you can't create a mandate to keep employers in the state. You need to keep taxes low and keep it a good place to do business.

But according to liberals evil corporations and evil rich are to blame they need to give back their money for the greater good.

Well guess what with high taxes companies are going to leave

Told you so

The poor don't pay taxes and the wealthy pay all the taxes.

The only transfer is from rich to poor.

I know I know the rich are evil corporations are evil but please get your facts straight

I'm no liberal, but wealth transfer doesn't just happen on the government level.

Wow... I'd like to meet someone one day who works hard and makes a good living. Can you introduce me to anyone like that?

The welfare recipients are MOSTLY under the age of 18... I am all for taking care of those unable to work, children, and the elderly. Aren't you? Of course, I am also for the elimination of welfare fraud as well. I've been to Britain plenty for work. They don't seem to be complaining about their standard of living.

Would you give up 600 square feet of your home to guarantee your kids had health insurance? Or better yet to guarantee that all kids had health insurance? I would.

This discuss is OT, however.

What is happening here is that tax dollars are being used to line the pockets of partners at a private company. It's outrageous that tax money taken from the hard working middle class is privatized and given to the rich.

I don't know what that has to do with Health Insurance in England.... but I responded to both points.
