I guess I must be easy to please. Darbar and Bentara both seem good to me for the money. Spending more will get you more, probably.

I'm with you on Bentara. I had great food there.

I found the Cask Republic today as I was walking around downtown. GREAT beer selection. Pricey though. The burger I had for lunch was OK, but nothing special especially for $10. Everything it seems is expensive around here. Still, I loved the atmosphere of the place and will go back if only on special occasions.

I have never in my life seen such a wanton disregard for traffic lights as I have experienced here. It's freakin' ridiculous the number of times someone runs a light WAY after the fact. I saw a guy waiting to turn left at a light. The car behind him decides not to wait, and turns left from behind cutting the corner of the intersection and nearly causing an accident from an oncoming car. WTF? Pedestrians too seem to just not give a shit and just cross whenever, where ever, with zero regard for the traffic. It's a wonder more people are not hit.

Cask is awesome. They're a little pricey but we go there every once in awhile for their good beer.

Cask is great for beer, but for a Burger - go to Prime 16. Which, incidentally, has a smaller but equally choice beer list.

Agreed. Prime has a fantastic beer list as well.

What I like about good ol New Haven was that even back in the mid 80s, when Temple Street had completely empty storefronts, the Ninth Square existed in name but with no, none, nada of what you see today, when Chapel St had a four level Strawberries music store, an Amperes music store, a Sam Goody music store, and of course there was still Cutlers.

That even back in the mid 80s when the Grotto was still on Crown, when you could sit in the Chapel Square Mall food court and look out at 30,000 people watching the New Haven Jazz Festival as you ate Chinese Food or a Sub at the window, when the New Haven Veterans Memorial Coliseum called hockey crowds and concert goers... even back then when New Haven's overall reputation from outsiders was one of a desolate, depressing, violent, crime ridden, place tinged with needless racial fears... even then I knew what others would soon discover------------ that it was a gem waiting to be discovered. We would see hints of this or that as this different stores, this different restuarants, then there was Bar, Gotham Citi, new restaurants, shops, housing, and things were changing. Now, people are starting to see what I knew then that you can't keep a good town down for long. I like that New Haven's underdog persona has been an uphill fight.
