I'd much rather live there than Shelton, but notice I did recommend Shelton as well. It is a small difference in commute depending on where you live in both towns. Milford also gives the indispensable option to easily choose 95, 15, or the train to head to Norwalk.

Well that's your preference because you like the beach. Shelton is a fine town with beautiful neighborhoods. I don't think Milford is worth an extra 20-30 minute round trip commute to Bristol.

I'm still not understanding why you're recommending the OP go OUT of their way to commute to Bristol.

I'd even recommend the OP look at Seymour.

Shelton is nice, no doubt. I also like the added activity, access to train and 2 highways, downtown, park-like settings around the downtown and harbor. Shelton is a great option, I haven't rallied against it.

20-30 minutes? That's just conjecture.

From the center of Shelton, Google maps says 32.6 mi, 51 mins

From the center of Milford, Google maps says 35.8 mi, 58 mins

Seymour is a good option on a tight budget.

It's actually 29 miles from the downtown area of Shelton, which is where the vast majority of the housing stock is (unless the OP plans on spending $$$ to purchase in Huntington or White Hills).

So no, it's not conjecture. It's accurate. And even using your times, that's still at least a 15-17 minute difference, especially during rush hour. Going your way (34 to Derby-Milford Road) would be a pain. That stretch of 34 from Starbucks down to Route 8 and back gets very, very congested.

Even better than Shelton is Seymour. 23 miles to Bristol, 29 miles to Route 7 in Norwalk.

Well, no offense to anyone in Shelton, but that area is probably the least desirable. And it's on the very northeast edge of Shelton.

My route bypasses the Starbucks plaza. The light turning onto 8 does get congested, but we're talking maybe a 5 minute delay. It's not earth shattering.

It's the least desirable if you stay on Howe Ave. Once you go up the hill a bit, it gets far nicer. I used to live right off of Howe Ave and hated it, and wished I had gotten a place 2 miles up the hill. There are lots of nice areas around there.

I understand your route bypasses that plaza - but it's still along what is a hellish little stretch during rush hour. I frequent that route when visitng my parents. I'm also very familiar with Derby-Milford Road. Both suck. D-M road because it's windy and hilly, and you often get stuck behind someone going 25. 34 because of the traffic congestion and lights, even if it's only for 2 miles.

These people already have long commutes. Let's not recommend they lengthen it.

I agree. It's all well and good that somebody loves the town they live in, but don't push it incessantly if it isn't in the OP's better interests to move there.............

I live in Shelton, in a very nice, safe neighborhood and commute daily to Norwalk. I hop on to Route 8 and depending on traffic, I can either take the Merritt or 95 to Norwalk. I work in East Norwalk by Van Zant st. It takes me anywhere from 30 minutes (no traffic) to about an hour. I work 9-5, and I have found that if I leave by 8 AM I am 90% of the time in Norwalk by 9. I usually get home within 45 minutes. It's not a terrible commute, it is tolerable. The great thing about Shelton IS that it is very close to major highways and is close to lower Fairfield county, new haven, and milford Seymour or Oxford would also be good options
