Can someone tell me how many fire alarms are required for a 1 bedroom/bathroom condominium. I got a letter from teh condo association saying its 3, but I thought it was 2. Its a very small condo and it seems like 3 is overkill. ON top of that they are saying that the entire condo complex will be inspected by the fire chief this coming weekend. I just want to prepare.

By Code now, every property needs to have a smoke detector in every bedroom and in the hallways of each floor with at least a CO/Smoke combo in the hallways.

So if you have a 1 BR but 2 levels, you will need 3 smoke detectors. If you have 1 BR but on one level, then 2 is the most you need. (Hall & Bedroom)

It's not overkill because the smoke wont always go to the only smoke detector in the home. This is why they made it code to have one in each BR and hallways. Fire can happen anywhere and in any wall.
