Spring Glen is a great neighborhood--beautiful. But not a huge fan of the rest of Hamden.

You can almost here people yawn with excitement as the new "Best of" list is unveiled.

For one of the dumbest "studies", there is the "Manliest Cities" list. Courtesy of Best Places. At least one can get a bit of a laugh from that.

These lists are amusing, but I really hope they're not expected to be taken seriously. It's nice to see one's own town acknowledged in one of these lists, but when many other (and nicer) towns are nowhere to be found, it makes me wonder. Example: In one of these previous lists, Simsbury was put on here and ranked above several other CT towns, some of which appear on this year's list. Yet there's been no mention of it ever since - and many other towns, while nice, but with alot less character made these lists. That being said, there's a good chance these writers never set foot in some of these places.

The problem is there are poeple that take these lists seriously. People will blindly go by what some national publication writes even though if the did a little research they would find out the publication knows nothing about the place. Jay

All of these sorts of lists are indeed silly, however the Connecticut Magazine lists are surprisingly accurate to at least my own feelings about how different places in CT match up. Their methodology seems a bit inane in spots but like I said, the rankings are pretty reasonable. It's been linked here on C-D before.

Small towns:
Rating the Towns 2012 - Connecticut Magazine - March 2012 - Connecticut

Larger:
Rating the Towns 2011 - Connecticut Magazine - November 2011 - Connecticut

Cost of living doesn't skew the results as much as in some of these national lists (which have places like Binghamton, NY very high mostly because it's dirt cheap to live there), which is nice.

Once you get past the Top 5, CT Mag's list becomes just as worthless as anybody else's. Hartford is a better place to live than Bridgeport? Bridgeport is a better place to live than West Haven?

I'm not sure I'd disagree with either of those statements
