Default How far into Connecticut do Ny'ers commute?

I have heard of commuters who work in the core NY metro, traveling as far as;
Mystic
Farmington
Southington
Old Lyme
New Hartford
Canaan
Glastonbury
Middletown

I've even heard of people commuting up to the Berkshire's.

Wow, not me! Right now I'm only commuting to Stamford, but my job involves changing short term assignments so I've gone as far as Bridgeport (and once for about 2 weeks to Danbury, actually i had a regular 3 day/week Bridgeport job from 7:30-3 that I did for about 2 years). If the timing were right (my assignments usually are before rush hours) I might go as far as New Haven and Waterbury as I could get there in about/a little over an hour if there were absoultely no traffic.

I think the reverse is more common (not common, just you see it more), I know of someone in the Hartford area that actually commutes to Port Chester, NY (non-rush hours) and when my wife was a customer service manager for a company in Stamford and Norwalk, she knew an employee who commuted from Waterbury to Stamford due to the cheaper housing.

Generally, Fairfield and Danbury. From what I've seen, that's about as far as they will commute from the boroughs. If you're talking Westchester, there's a guy who works in Branford who commutes from Valhalla.

I highly doubt that the people that commute from many of the OP's listed towns are done on a daily basis. Some of these are several hours from Manhattan. Maybe someone does the commute one or two days a week which is entirely different than doing it every day. Jay

Is the OP referring to residence in these areas or employment. Not a robust job market in the Berkshires or Canaan, CT.

I've heard of people traveling from the Bennington, VT area to NYC for work. With those people they'll travel to the Wassaic, NY train station, get a hotel for 2 or 3 nights and come back on Thursday. Wouldn't surprise me if people commuted as far as Pittsfield, MA, and Litchfield/Winstead, CT however. That Wassaic parking lot is FILLED with MA & CT plates.

Not sure it's on topic since I still can't tell if the OP is talking only about NYC -> CT (which is pretty rare?!), but here's some interesting info...

These towns in Litchfield County according to CERC data have a lot of NYC commuters..

1. Roxbury, Cornwall, Sharon, Salisbury - Manhattan is the 3rd most common commuting endpoint
2. Washington, Kent - Manhattan is the 4th most common commuting endpoint
3. Bridgewater - Manhattan is the 5th most common commuting endpoint
4. Warren - Manhattan is the 7th most common commuting endpoint

Pretty amazing to me. That's not a person here or there, that's a fair number of commuters.

I wonder if these individuals rent in NYC but own in Litchfield County. Although they spend their work week in Manhattan, they still consider themselves "commuters" since they own out of state.
