Default Whole foods in Milford?

Hi ,

Does anyone know if Wild Oats that was going to be open in Milford Marketplace is going to be now Whole foods or not? Apparently, wild oats got bought over by whole foods..if you know the trend around the country, opening up of Whole foods , jacks up the prices around the area.

Happy Wednesday,CoolStrom

I was just speaking with someone about that one (Stew Leonard's site in Orange) yesterday, and he said if the levels of reisistance among Orange residents remained the same, it may never happen. That would be a shame - I'm getting sick of driving to Stew's in Norwalk from where I live (Stratford) every couple of weeks.

To me it always seemed strange to me that there was such opposition to Stew's in Orange. Right across the street is a movie theater complex that I believe has now closed and it is in the middle of a large commercial/office/industrial district. Then again I do not know the issues in the area so I can't really speak to them. But i still think it is strange. Jay

Yes, Showcase Cinemas in Orange shut down a couple of months ago, off exit 41 on I-95N. They were doing really badly, with less than 20% occupancy on weekdays. I heard that Orange residents have issues with the traffic that a Stew Leonard's would generate in the neighbourhood, though that doesn't make much sense to me - both Stews at Norwalk & Danbury seem to have no traffic-management issues, wth a lot more commercial establishments nearby. Speaking for myself, I'd welcome a business of the scale & reputation of a Stew Leonards in my town - in addition to the shopping convenience, it increases the tax base and boosts home values !

Traffic is ALWAYS the issue, but by state law major projects MUST mitigate their traffic issues and I know Stew's project did that. I think that is just an "excuse" used too often by people whoi just don't want change. Jay

Imagine the traffic Krispy Kreme had in Milford when it opened only multiplied by about 10. That's what the Orange residents are afraid of.

Default It all depends on town too.

Don't forget that Orange is not as business friendly as Milford. Things move very slow in Orange and in West Haven its even worst. You really need a town that is business friendsly. I completely agree with Nish that having a good shopping base increases the revenue and and good boost to the home value. If you do a search on Real Estate prices for the towns having "Whole Foods" you'll be pleasently surprised! I think Milford is doing amazing job bringing businesses to the town.

My 2 cents....

Regards, coolStrom
